The best things are probably the cleanliness of the urban environment and the public transport. It always strikes me when I go back to the UK how dirty the urban environment is compared to Japanese urban environments.
The public transport system is excellent here. Trains usually run on time and are clean and orderly. In Japan I can easily get away without having a car, even in the outer suburban area where I live. In the UK, I doubt I would be able to do this unless I was in an inner urban area.
